HARIO SYPHON

Ingredients:

  • 17 g of coffee beans for one person
  • Purified or bottled water
  • One electric kettle
  • One Hario Syphon TCA-2 and alcohol burner
  • Dessert spoon or bamboo spatula
  • Stopwatch
  • One mug

Preparation:

  1. Grind the coffee beans on the filter coffee setting.
  1. Soak the cloth filter in warm water for 5 minutes to remove any foreign odors, then place the filter on the top of the Syphon and attach the metal paddle to the mouth of the thin tube. After pouring the ground coffee into the upper part of the Syphon, turn the lid of the Syphon upside down and put the upper part to rest.
  1. Fill the lower part of the Syphon with 120 g of hot water for 17 g of coffee.
  1. After placing the upper part of the Syphon in the lower part, place the whole system on the alcohol burner. Light the stove.
  1. After a while the hot water from below will start to fill upwards. During the rise, start to soak the coffee without stirring it completely, pressing gently with a spatula or spoon. This stage is important to release the coffee aroma.
  1. 1:30 minutes after the coffee has risen, stir the coffee completely with a spoon or spatula. Wait another 30 seconds and remove the syphon from the fire source. Keep the coffee on the fire for a total of 2:00 minutes.
  2. The brewed coffee will start to flow downwards. The coffee will complete its flow by forming bubbles in the final stage. You can then remove the top and serve your coffee.
